As our project portfolio continues to expand, we are looking for a skilled Engineering Design and Drafting Technologist to join our team.

Position Overview

The Engineering Design and Drafting Technologist will prepare detailed technical drawings, coordinate with clients, support building permit submissions, and ensure designs meet the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and applicable municipal requirements. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, efficient with CAD software, and experienced in residential design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate architectural, structural, and building permit drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.

  • Prepare design layouts, floor plans, elevations, sections, and details based on project requirements.

  • Update existing drawings to meet OBC, municipal zoning, and building by-law standards.

  • Assist in preparing permit application packages, forms, and supporting documentation.

  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, contractors, and homeowners to gather project information.

  • Review site measurements, sketches, and markups to convert into complete drawing sets.

  • Conduct basic code reviews related to exiting, occupancy classification, spatial separations, and fire protection requirements.

  • Maintain drawing files, revisions, and project documentation in an organized manner.

  • Support project managers with design tasks and administrative project duties.

  • Ensure all work complies with safety, building code, and professional drafting standards.

  • Support day to day business operations as required.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Architectural Technology, Engineering Design Technology, CAD/Drafting Technology, or bachelor in any engineering field.

  • 1+ years of relevant drafting or design experience (residential preferred).

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit is an asset.

  • Solid understanding of construction terminology, building systems, and residential design.

  • Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code (Part 3/9) is highly preferred.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering markups, surveys, and as-built measurements.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Good communication skills for client and stakeholder coordination.

Assets (Not Required)
  • Knowledge of zoning bylaws across GTA/Ontario municipalities.

  • Experience drafting structural components (beams, lintels, foundations).

  • Experience preparing drawings for basement legalizations, additions, load-bearing wall removals, or small commercial tenant fit-outs.

What We Offer
  • Competitive hourly rate or salary based on experience.

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Remote/hybrid work opportunities.

  • Opportunity to grow with a fast-expanding design firm.

  • Exposure to diverse residential and small commercial projects.
